About High School Sailing

Severn Sailing Association is lucky enough to be located in one of the most competitive high school sailing districts in the US. The district we are in for high school sailing is called MASSA (MidAtlantic Scholastic Sailing Association) and the league inside of that district all four of the teams compete in is called MDISA (Maryland Interscholarstic Sailing Association). SSA hosts four high school teams- Broadneck High School, Key School, South River High School, and Archbishop Spalding. At the beginning of every season, there will be a mandatory informational meeting. This meeting is a great way for new faces to get an introduction to each team, parents, and the coaches. Tryouts are at the beginning of every season. The SSA Junior Program's mission is to help young people learn techniques of one-design racing and to help them fully develop their one-design racing skills.

Practice Times
Varsity: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 3:30pm-6:30pm*
JV: Tuesday and Thursday 3:30pm-6:30pm*
**Times are subject to change with event conflicts and daylight savings time change.

All sailors are expected to show up for tryouts, every practice, and regattas with a US Coast Guard approved life jacket, closed toed shoes (whether it be sailing boots or old sneakers), a bailer, a watch with countdown feature [for practices and regattas only], and clothes that can get wet. If a sailor is missing one of the necessary gear listed, this could cause them to miss out on a practice, regatta, or tryouts.

In order to register for the high school season, each sailor must become a Junior Club Member.

Mandatory Pre-Season Meeting August 27th at 5:30pm at Severn Sailing Association.

Full payment is required by Monday September 10th. Sailors who haven't paid, won't be allowed to participate until payment is received and will incur a $100 late fee.

Cancellation Policy:
You have until September 14th to cancel and receive a refund (less $20 processing fee). No refunds will be given during the season.

Mandatory tryouts will be on the following dates:
Broadneck: Tuesday September 4th 3:00pm-6:00pm
Key School and Archbishop Spalding: Wednesday September 5th 3:00pm-6:00pm
South River: Thursday September 6th 3:00pm-6:00pm
Team announcements will go out on Friday September 7th.

SSA Junior Program
